hello! this blog in a work in progress, check back to see if i've figured out html yet!

Music

This page is will explore the music I intend to use for my film, and some of the challenges I will have to overcome.

Beeps and boops

The most common way of licensing music for film is through PRS for Music and MCPS. However, these services are much more suited to larger artists and film producers. On my small scale, it seems much more appropriate to take the old fashioned route of contacting artists directely, and negotating a syncronisation license myself.

I'm decently involved with my local music scene, already having contact with a few composers, gigging musicians and producers. Not to mention I'm not exactly a fan of these organisations having a monopoly over music licensing in the UK -or all of the laws surrounding music licensing in general, set out in the copyright act 1911.

Another route I would like to explore is creating my own music / scores. I've recently got my hands on a KORG electribe sampler aswell as having, albiet limited, experience with digital audio workstations.

I've already amassed a small playlist of tracks which fall into genres which I think would fit the theme of my short, mainly falling under digital hardcore, alternative/indi, tekno, punk and breakcore.

since my film takes heavy inspiration from the researgence of neo-toky style themes of the early 200's, such as midnight club ____morestuff_____, I feel it'd be appropriate to include music which fits into this nostalgic theme. Recently this subculture has a had a massive resergence, producing artists the likes of ____ and _____, so I'd love to work with some of these producers, or atleast take inspiration from the vibe this resergence has creeated.
